Tank focuses on fashion, art, contemporary culture and current affairs. Quarterly. United Kingdom.

About the issue: TANK first launched the Summer Books issue in 2015 in response to widespread consensus that print was dead. Eight years on, amid a boom in publishing, we’ve reimagined the Summer issue to understand where literature fits in an age of AI insurgence, paper scarcity and the decline of academia. Where does contemporary literature come from, and how is it produced?

President of New Directions Publishing Barbara Epler talks us through the best recently published fiction, a concordance reframes the work of Lynne Tillman, and Anahid Nersessian talks Keats’ relationship to Marxism. László Krasznahorkai contemplates eternity in Trieste, while Mark Rylance takes us into the dark English woods. Kirsty Bell considers the art book, and we, in collaboration with Montblanc, publish new Flash Fiction from Caleb Femi, Tice Cin, Momtaza Mehri and Joanna Biggs.

This summer’s fashion manifesto considers the stories that styling choices tell, and prima ballerina Francesca Hayward discusses narrative in dance. Chanel takes us on tour from Dakar to Paris, and Gucci bags form a balancing act. Plus, we speak to Gary Younge on journalism, Catherine Opie on portraiture, Aleksandar Hemon on imagined histories and Michael Bracewell on memory lane.

Issue features:  László Krasznahorkai, Mark Rylance, Barbara Epler, Kirsty Bell, Lynne Tillman, Anahid Nersessian, Francesca Hayward, Alice Ray, Axis Mundi, Chanel Métiers d'Art, Tice Cin, Caleb Femi, Momtaza Mehri, Joanna Biggs, Gary Younge, Catherine Opie, Aleksandar Hemon, and more.
